Kin Essence – Heightened awareness allows for higher perspective
Colourful, vibrant starfish have long been known to evoke wonder and joy in adults and children alike. All beings are miracles of nature, but sea stars have a magical quality that connects us with creativity and our spiritual side.
Although graceful and slow moving, starfish are tremendously strong, having the ability to hold down their prey with just one of their arms and also the ability to support their own weight while they travel in all directions on their hundreds of tiny tube feet. They are sensitive to touch, light, temperature and even status of water – and their complex nervous system allows them to be extremely intuitive to external surroundings and environment. In having this awareness, they show us that our best and most powerful gifts lie in our ability to truly feel what is happening around us, to know when to retreat or react based on where we feel intuitively called by our bodies.
Evidence of starfish in ancient fossils tell us that starfish have existed for millions of years and have survived whilst many other species became extinct. Most species of these amazing creatures are able to regenerate damaged parts of themselves, which can take months or years to rebuild. This teaches us that no matter what we feel is lost in our lives forever, can often be rebuild or found again over time. That nothing is permanent or forever.
The starfish reminds us that we don’t need to carry everything on our own, we’re invited to spread the weight around, ask for help, and drop the things (and beliefs) that no longer serve us.
